The Plain of Six Glaciers Trail first follows the flat shoreline of Lake Louise before a gradual climb over a glacial moraine to the Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse (bring cash). The latter has been run by the same family since the late 1950s.
This hike offers incredible mountain and glacier views and the unique perspective of looking back at Lake Louise from the end. It is a solid moderate level trail, with some rocky and uneven sections, one narrow cliffside portion and some switchbacks. Most of the hike is pretty exposed, in that there is no tree cover or shade.
The total return trip is 10.6km return with 365m elevation gain - allow 4 hours. Alternatively, connect to the Lake Agnes Trail via the Highline Trail and hike a 14.6km loop instead (5-6 hours).
A Parks Canada parks pass is required to explore Banff National Park - $22/day for a vehicle of up to 7 people. To reach Lake Louise, you'll need to pay for parking ($36.75), use the Parks Canada shuttle bus ($8/person), ROAM Transit 8x bus ($10) OR book a private shuttle.
