Basildon Park is a historic country house located in Berkshire, England, known for its Palladian and neoclassical architecture. Built between 1776 and 1783 for Sir Francis Sykes, the house went through various owners and uses over the years, including serving as an army convalescent hospital and a prisoner of war camp during World War II. In the 20th century, it was restored by Lord and Lady Iliffe and eventually donated to the National Trust in 1978. Today, Basildon Park is a popular filming location and a well-preserved example of a grand English estate with a fascinating history.
Filming sites: This is Mr Bingley's house! At least in the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley as Lizzie and Matthew MacFadyen as Mr Darcy. The mansion is a suitably grand residence for a 'young man of four or five thousand a year'.
