Great Chalfield Manor is an impressive Grade I listed English country house located in Wiltshire, about 2.5 miles northeast of the town of Bradford on Avon. Believed to have been built around 1465-1480 by Thomas Tropenell, a wealthy clothier from the landed gentry, it was then passed down in the Eyre family for three generations until being sold to Sir Richard Gurney in 1631. Today, the house is open to the public, and guests are invited to explore its architecturally stunning features, like its symmetrical entrance front and the four "tree houses" - yews which have grown together and been hollowed out. Those who visit can also take a look inside its beautiful church, built c.1480, or stroll through its gardens, crafted with careful guidance by Alfred Parsons. The house has even served as a filming location stretch back to 1999 when it appeared in the BBC's adaptation of “Wives and Daughters” as Hamley Hall.
