Engstlensee is a pretty alpine lake located at 1835 m, a quiet spot for picnics and popular spot for fishing.
The lake has a nice picnic area with big grassy areas near the lakeshore, tables and fire pit. You can swim in the lake, but it's icy cold, so no one stays in for long. There are toilets nearby.
How to get here
By car: You can drive here from Meiringen. But it's a private road, so you must pay a fee to enter this area.
By bus: You can ride a mountain bus here from Meiringen. It is not part of the public transport system, so no discounts with Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card or other travel passes or cards.
From Engelberg, you can ride lifts most of the way. Here's the flow:
From Engelberg, ride the Titlis Xpress gondola up to Trübsee.
Walk pass the lake to the chair lift and ride up to Joch Pass.
Then hike down to the Engstlensee lake. Or ride the second chair lift half way down the mountain, then walk about 15 mins to the lake.
Return the way you came.
