Lake Thun (aka Thunersee) is a large beautiful lake just west of Interlaken. Taking a boat tour is a fun and easy way to enjoy the spectacular scenery without much work.

For a nice day trip, we typically suggest riding the boat from Interlaken to Thun, a 2h15 journey. Then spend a couple hours exploring Thun and the castle. Then return to Interlaken by train, 30 mins.

Timetable

The Lake Thun boats run year round. The schedule changes based on the season, so check timetables carefully to make sure it's valid on your travel dates.

In summer, there are usually 7 boats a day in both directions. Only two of these are the vintage steamboats, which are well worth arranging your schedule around.

Tickets

The boat ride is free with the Swiss Travel Pass, Bernese Oberland Pass, GA, Saver Day Pass and Jungfrau Travel Pass.

Without a travel pass, you can buy tickets on the SBB Mobile app, ticket machines, ticket office at some docks, and on the boat. The ticket price depends on far you ride the boat.

Discount with Swiss Half Fare card. Families benefit from the Family Day Pass.

How to get there

There are several stops around the lake. But most visitors start at the Interlaken West boat dock or Thun boat dock, both of which are right next to a train station.
