Brunngasse is a charming cobblestone lane in Brienz, filled with picturesque wooden chalets dating back to the 18th century. It's on a lot of people's bucket list because it was once voted Europe's "Most Beautiful Street" and appears in many top 10 lists.

I think it's very nice and worth a stop if you are already in the area or it fits well into your itinerary. But it's not significantly nicer than other cute Swiss villages like Mürren or Wengen. So I wouldn't plan your itinerary around visiting it.

Walking loop

We suggest visiting Brunngasse as part of a loop walk, which starts along the lakefront and loops back through the village, about 45 min. See suggested walking route.

Along the way, you can walk along the short "Brunngasse," which is often referred to as the "prettiest street in Switzerland."

Tip: There are free public toilets and luggage lockers at the Brienz train station.

How to get there

By car: The closest parking to Brunngasse is Parkplatz Rössliplatz along the main Hauptstrasse.

By public transport: Brunngasse is a 12 min walk from the Brienz train station and ferry dock.

From Interlaken Ost, it's about 20 min by train. Free travel with the Swiss Travel Pass, Jungfrau Travel Pass and Berner Oberland Pass. From Lucerne, it's 1h30 by train, free travel with Swiss Travel Pass and Lucerne Tell Pass.
