The Polybahn funicular is a fun ride, connecting the Zürich old town to the Polyterrasse viewpoint. Its used mostly by students, since it provides quicker access to ETH and Zürich University.

Location: Limmatquai 144, 8001 Zürich, less than 5 min walk from Zürich HB train station.

It's a short ride, traveling 176m in 100 seconds. It runs about every 2 to 5 mins, fitting 50 passengers. It's been in operation since 1889.

💡The front of the train has an open-air section where you can stand and get the best photos and videos as you ride the train. If that part is full, just wait for the next train that leaves in a few more minutes.

Tickets

The Polybahn is part of the Zürich public transport system. You do not need to buy a separate ticket if you already have a valid Zurich city day pass, Zürich Card, or Swiss Travel Pass. Otherwise, you can buy a ticket onsite or SBB Mobile app.
