Kilchurn Castle is a fascinating old castle situated on the banks of Loch Awe in Dalmally, Scotland. Make sure to visit not just the castle, but also to admire it from the other side of the loch (the road runs just alongside so it's easy to pull in). Parking is easy for both, but bring good footwear in wetter conditions!
Some history:
It was initially built by the powerful Campbells of Glenorchy in the mid 1400s and remained their powerbase for 150 years. By 1689, it was converted into a sturdy garrison stronghold, where soldiers were garrisoned until its abandonment at the end of the 1700s. Nowadays, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the loch and take in the beauty of this impressive castle. With its towering tower house, courtyard, and barracks, Kilchurn Castle remains one of Scotland's most iconic historic attractions.
