Location:

Wineglass Bay Lookout Track is located in Freycinet National Park, on Tasmania’s east coast. The trailhead is accessible via Coles Bay Road, with parking available at the designated car park. The track is well-marked and suitable for all vehicles to reach the start.

Hike length:

Approximately 1.5–2 km return, taking 30–45 minutes depending on pace and how long you spend enjoying the views.

Difficulty Level:

Easy to moderate — the trail has some uphill sections, stairs and uneven surfaces, but it is well-formed and suitable for most walkers, including families.

Dogs allowed:

No, dogs are not permitted in Freycinet National Park.

Entry cost / Park passes:

A valid parks pass is required for entry to Tasmania’s national parks. For example:

  • A Daily Pass (up to 24 hours): Per vehicle (up to 8 people) costs AUD $47.70. A per‑person pass (travelling by bus, cycle or on foot) costs AUD $23.85

  • A Holiday Pass (up to 2 months): Per vehicle (up to 8 people) costs AUD $95.50. Per person (travelling by bus/cycle/foot) costs AUD $47.75
This “holiday” option gives you access to all Tasmanian national parks for up to two months from the start date.
Note: Prices may change, so it’s best to check the official site before you go.

More information:

The track leads to the iconic Wineglass Bay Lookout, offering a spectacular panoramic view of the bay’s white sandy beach, turquoise waters and surrounding Hazards mountain range.

The trail winds through coastal heathland, with native shrubs and wildflowers, providing opportunities for wildlife spotting along the way. The final lookout platform offers the perfect spot for photos and to take in the breathtaking scenery.

For those wanting a longer adventure, the track can be extended with a descent to Wineglass Bay Beach via the Hazards Beach Track, adding a few more kilometers and a moderate climb back to the lookout.

Extra Tip: This track is one of the most famous hikes in Tasmania and can get very busy, especially in summer. If you are an experienced hiker you can chose the Mount Amos summit hike instead for lesser crowds and an even more breathtaking view of Wineglass Bay. You can also try to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds.
