While you probably have lots of ideas from the pre-made itineraries and "things to do" database/map, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed when it comes to hotels.

First of all, book as soon as you know your dates.

Many Alaska communities have limited rooms in total, so the sooner you book, the more likely you'll get to stay at the place you want, and the less likely you'll get price-gouged at the last minute.

Next, I wanted to include my list of the top hotels I recommend in each community on my map; you'll find lots of options among places I've stayed on mymany trips, but here are the ones I always try to book.

  • Anchorage: The Copper Whale Inn (small, local B&B style), The Hotel Captain Cook (large, local, and fantastic room views), the Marriott Downtown (great if you're loyal to Marriott, also with good views).

  • Denali: Grande Denali Lodge (best views, try to stay at the cabins), Denali Bluffs (sister property to the Grande Denali, a nice option closer to town), Denali Cabins (adult summer camp, bit of a drive from the park entrance/Nenana Canyon), Denali Backcountry Lodge (if you have the budget and want to stay out at Kantishna)

  • Fairbanks: Taste of Alaska Lodge (locally owned, out of town, B&B style), Chena Hot Springs Resort (iconic Alaskan experience with plenty to occupy a few days), Borealis Basecamp (if you have the budget, especially in the winter!)

  • Homer: Ocean House Inn Hotel And Condos (locally owned, great views, options for every party size and style), Aspen Suites Homer (tons of space, great for families)

  • McCarthy/Kennecott: Ma Johnson's (historic and funky), Kennicott Glacier Lodge (nicer option, more costly)

  • Seward: Harbor 360 Hotel (excellently located, nice rooms), Gateway Hotel (sister property of Harbor 360, lovely for families and groups), Seward Windsong Lodge (outside of town, cozy and nestled in the woods)

  • Talkeetna: Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge (iconic views, a little outside town but there is a shuttle), Talkeetna Inn (budget-friendly but rustic, right in town)

  • Valdez: Totem Inn & Suites (right in the heart of it all)

  • Whittier: Inn at Whittier (temporarily closed but the best place by far)

I hope that helps narrow it down for you!
