Kennecott, also known as Kennicott Mines, is an abandoned mining camp in Alaska that used to be a bustling center for copper mining. Located near the Kennicott Glacier, it was once home to several mines like Bonanza, Jumbo, Mother Lode, Erie, and Glacier. The town boomed in the early 1900s but eventually became a ghost town by 1938 when the high-grade ore ran out. Despite its deserted state, Kennecott remains a National Historic Landmark District, attracting visitors interested in exploring its historic buildings and mining heritage.
