Likely the most beautiful hike in all of South Africa: the Drakensberg Amphitheatre, a colossal wall of rock stretching for kilometers. To get onto the plateau, you do the Sentinel Peak hike, a challenging 12km day-hike with unforgettable views over the world's tallest waterfall, Tugela Falls. The trail involves a steady ascent and a final, thrilling climb up a series of chain ladders—though a less exposed gully scramble is an alternative option if you want to skip the ladders. The hike typically takes around 5-6 hours, and the trailhead car park is accessible by 4x4 or you need to arrange a 4x4 shuttle from Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge.
