📍 В сърцето на Искърското дефиле, сгушен сред величествени варовикови скали, се намира Черепишкият манастир „Успение Богородично“ – един от най-впечатляващите манастири в България.

Основан е още през Средновековието и е бил средище на книжовност и духовност. Името „Черепиш“ идва от легенда: след тежко сражение с османците мястото било осеяно с кости и черепи. Белите кости по скалите сякаш озарили долината и дали име на манастира.

Манастирът е свързан с Васил Левски и Христо Ботев – недалеч е последната битка на Ботевата чета. Той успява да вдъхнови и Иван Вазов, който създава разказа „Черепиш“. Днес тук се пазят ценни икони, ръкописи и прекрасна църква от XVII век.

Легендата разказва, че дори в най-тъмните времена от скалите се чувал шепот – молитвите на загиналите, които сякаш пазели мястото. Хората вярвали, че душите им закрилят манастира и всеки, който прекрачи прага му с чисто сърце.

Посещението тук е не само духовно изживяване, а и докосване до жива легенда, пазеща паметта на героите ни.

📍 In the heart of the Iskar Gorge, nestled among majestic limestone cliffs, lies the Cherepish Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary—one of the most impressive monasteries in Bulgaria.

It was founded in the Middle Ages and was a center of learning and spirituality. The name “Cherepish” comes from a legend: after a fierce battle with the Ottomans, the place was littered with bones and skulls. The white bones on the rocks seemed to illuminate the valley and gave the monastery its name.

The monastery is associated with Vasil Levski and Hristo Botev – it is not far from the site of Botev's last battle. It also inspired Ivan Vazov, who wrote the story “Cherepish.” Today, it houses valuable icons, manuscripts, and a beautiful 17th-century church.

Legend has it that even in the darkest times, whispers could be heard from the rocks – the prayers of the dead, who seemed to guard the place. People believed that their souls protected the monastery and anyone who crossed its threshold with a pure heart.

A visit here is not only a spiritual experience but also a touch of a living legend that preserves the memory of our heroes.
