Your little 2025 Drone Guide
Planning to bring a drone to explore Indonesiaās breathtaking landscapes? From Baliās lush rice terraces to the volcanic heights of Java, airborne views are tempting, but drone rules can be tricky. Let's clear the air and decode the current regulations as of mid-2025.
The good news first:
Recreational drone flights are allowed without complex requirements.
For commercial use, no registration or special permits are needed eitherāat least officially.
But there's still important stuff to keep in mind:
Max Altitude 150 m (ā 492 ft) in uncontrolled airspace
Weight Limit Under 7 kg for hobby drones
Visual Line of Sight Must maintain direct visual contact
Nearest Airport Distance Maintain at least 15 km buffer from runways
Cloud Distance Vertically ā„ 150 m; horizontally ā„ 600 m
No-Fly Zones Avoid restricted or sensitive areas by at least
500 m Daylight & Visibility Only Flying at night or in poor visibility is prohibited. Minimum visibility: 4.8 km
Border Proximity Stay at least 500 m away from international land borders if flying with camera-equipped drones
In-Vehicle Flight Prohibited No flying from any moving vehicle - exceptions only for watercraft
Insurance Not mandatory - but highly recommended
Registration & Identification No known requirement to register your drone or affix identification
