What to expect:
Get ready for one of the most magical sights in Cao Bang, also known as "Heaven's Gate" This incredible limestone karst mountain features a massive hole right through its peak, creating a stunning natural arch. Depending on the season, you'll either find it rising from a vast, shimmering lake or standing watch over a lush green valley where water-buffalo graze peacefully. To reach it, you'll take a gentle 15-20 minute walk of about 1.5 km from the parking area.
How to get here:
60 minutes from Cal Bang by scooter, passing through scenic fields and local village life, which only adds to the charm of this unforgettable place. You can park your motorcycle at the end of the road (free of charge). Then walk down the hill to the plain area. There is also a viewing platform. We saw some people riding their motorcycles down to the plain and into the valley. While we were there, one of the riders fell. So be careful if you do this, as there are loose sections on the unpaved road and it is safer to walk with children.
Note: Depending on the season, there is a lake in front of the hill. When we were there, it was the dry season and everything was brown. In the rainy season, the river is bigger and everything is green.
