The Great Lake, located in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Australia. Known for its cool climate and scenic surroundings, it’s a popular spot for the wildlife, however we really enjoyed the long scenic drives. The lake sits on a high plateau making it colder than other parts of Tassie.

We enjoyed a free camp right on the waters edge and had a fire. Its remote and peaceful out here so fuel up before coming through and stop by the local pub. The rugged beauty of Tasmania’s interior has its own feel, and you are almost guaranteed to see echidna's, deer and wallabies.
