The Western Explorer Highway in Tasmania is a wild and rugged adventure through the Tarkine Wilderness area, its not for everyone but we took our van on the track and although it was dusty she did well.
There are a few remote opportunities to see while over here like the coastal town of Arthur River and the quaint village of Waratah, this road trip takes you through dense forests, and some old historic mining towns. So you don't need a 4WD however if you're up for the challenge there are so many cool tracks for you to enjoy.
This route was almost always empty when we travelled it but worth doing if you have enough time in Tassie to do the West Coast, there is more here to see than you'd expect and its nice when great spots aren't very busy. We recommend carrying additional fuel water and food before taking off from Aurthur River.
