Highlights
This trail takes you to the easternmost point of Madeira, the Ponta de São Lourenço Peninsula. Unlike the lush forests of the island’s interior, this hike features craggy cliffs, volcanic rock formations, and sweeping ocean views. Along the way, you’ll be greeted by unique vegetation and might even spot seals or seabirds. At the end of the trail, enjoy a rest at Casa do Sardinha, a small shelter with seating and stunning views of the surrounding cliffs and Atlantic Ocean.
Starting Point
The trail starts at the Baía d’Abra parking lot, accessible by car or bus (route 113). Parking is limited, so arriving early is recommended, especially during peak hours.
Important Tips
Fitness Level: Suitable for hikers with a moderate fitness level; the path has steep sections and uneven terrain.
Gear: Wear sturdy shoes, as the rocky paths can be challenging, and bring sunscreen, a hat, and windproof clothing—this area is often windy and exposed

Trail Fee: From 1 January 2026, a €4.50 fee per person applies to this trail. A reduced rate of €3 is available when hiking with a certified local guide.
Advance booking of a time slot is required for all visitors, including residents and children. Reservations and payments must be made online via Simplifica Madeira.

Sunrise Experience: Start your day with an unforgettable sunrise at Miradouro Ponta do Rosto or Ponta do Bode, a short drive away, before heading to the trail.
