Prainha do Caniçal is a charming small beach located near the stunning area of Ponta de São Lourenço in Madeira. It’s known for its unique sand and stands out as a contrast to the predominantly pebbled beaches across the island. The surrounding landscape is quite distinct, characterized by an arid environment with hues of yellow, brown, and orange, differing from the lush greens commonly found elsewhere on Madeira.
For those interested in natural wonders, Prainha is also home to Dunas da Piedade, dunes with limestone fossils of great geomorphological interest. Despite its arid scenery, Prainha provides a memorable bathing experience and is considered a small beach paradise on Madeira’s east coast.
