Gotokuji Temple is believed to be the birthplace of the lucky waving cat — Maneki Neko

Legend says a poor monk took in a stray cat here. One stormy night, a samurai took shelter under a tree near the temple. The cat raised its paw, “waving” him over. Seconds later, a lightning struck the tree.

The samurai was so grateful, he funded the temple and made it popular.
Today, you’ll find hundreds of adorable white cats with one paw up, not for clout, just for good vibes and good luck
