This is the first of two military checkpoints you'll encounter on the road to Sary Jaz, located near the Chinese border. Officials will typically ask to see your passports and may take a quick look inside your car.

From what I understand, these checks are mainly in place to monitor livestock transport in and out of the region. Occasionally, they might ask you to open your suitcase, but it’s usually a routine procedure.

In my experience, the guards were very friendly — a few were even a bit shy and asked to take photos with us!

🪪 Tip: Always carry your original passport and keep it easily accessible. Being respectful and cooperative goes a long way.
