Lake Louise is one of the places you've probably seen all over social media! It is the kind of place that makes you feel small in the best possible way. Its turquoise water is surrounded by gorgeous mountains & is truly incredible. This is one of the most iconic views in the Canadian Rockies for a reason. If you go during the summer, be prepared for a larger crowd!

How to Get There

Lake Louise is located within Banff National Park about forty five minutes north of the town of Banff. During the busy summer months parking fills extremely early, so the most reliable way to visit is by shuttle or public transit. At the time I went in October, there was plenty of paid parking available.

Ways to reach Lake Louise:

  • Parks Canada Shuttle
Shuttles run from the Lake Louise Park & Ride to the lake throughout the day. This is the most straightforward option if you want to avoid long waits for parking.

  • Roam Transit
If you are staying in Banff you can take Roam Transit to the Lake Louise Village area then connect to the Parks Canada shuttle.

  • Drive & Park
If you do attempt to drive, arrive very early. Parking often fills before sunrise during peak season & there is a fee at the lot.

  • Commercial Tours
Guided tours provide transportation along with local stories & insights. These can be a stress free way to visit if you prefer a planned outing.

What to Do

  • Walk the Lakeshore
There is a path follows the shoreline from one end of the lake to the other. It is an easy walk with incredible views that change as you move along.

  • Canoe on the Lake
Rent a canoe & paddle over the vibrant blue water! The Chateau at Lake Louise offers canoe rentals which I have linked for you!

  • Hike to the Tea Houses
The Lake Agnes Tea House trail leads you through forest & up to a peaceful alpine lake with a rustic tea house that has served hikers for generations. The Plain of Six Glaciers trail brings you deeper into the mountains with sweeping views & another charming tea house at the end.

  • Photography
Sunrise at Lake Louise is spectacular as the first light touches the peaks above the water. Evening light is equally beautiful with softer tones & fewer crowds. I have linked my photography gear as well!
