If you’re exploring the Galápagos Islands, Genovesa Island is an absolute must for bird lovers and anyone seeking dramatic volcanic landscapes. Nicknamed “Bird Island,” it’s famous for its cliffs, unique wildlife, and incredible opportunities to see seabirds up close — a perfect spot for hiking, wildlife watching, and photography.
This island is quite a bit further out - we did on our 6 day cruise, we were able to explore a few different parts of the island and kayak around Great Darwin Bay here around as well. We loved walking along the trails to see red-footed boobies, frigatebirds, and Nazca boobies nesting, while the cliffs and coves offered breathtaking views of the surrounding ocean. There are also great snorkeling spots nearby, this was actually where we snorkelled above hammerhead sharks (one of the only places in the world you can do this, usually you need to scuba dive to see them).
If you’re in the Galápagos and want a dramatic, wildlife-filled adventure with stunning views and amazing birdlife, Genovesa Island is definitely worth a visit.
