We’d really recommend checking out Mercado de Artesanías La Ciudadela if you’re in Mexico City and want to pick up handcrafted Mexican goods and souvenirs. It’s one of the most iconic artisan markets in the city with a huge variety of colorful pottery, textiles, jewelry and folk art representing crafts from all over Mexico. Many of the stalls are run by local artisans so you can chat with makers and learn a bit about where the pieces come from, and prices are generally very fair if you’re up for a little friendly haggling. Our tip is to come with an open mind and some time for browsing because it’s easy to find something unique to take home and you’ll see lots of amazing craft techniques you probably haven’t seen before.
