This place honestly felt like such a hidden gem. Nanku ended up being one of the cheapest and yummiest meals we had in Puerto Viejo, which is saying a lot because Costa Rica can be pretty expensive. The vibe is super relaxed and it’s almost always busy, so try to go outside peak times if you want a table straight away. Their menú del día was incredible value and a massive serve, we’d 100% recommend ordering that.
The food is all about local ingredients and good flavours, but done really well. Everything we tried tasted thoughtful without being fancy or intimidating. It’s the kind of place where you slow down, enjoy the meal properly, and end up talking about how good the food is the whole time you’re eating.
Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality, with the menú del día usually around 6–10 USD, and other mains still great value compared to most places nearby. If you’re in Puerto Viejo and want really good food without blowing your budget, Nanku is an absolute must.
