Popoyo is honestly such a cool little coastal spot in Nicaragua, and it’s perfect if you’re chasing surf, sun, and chill vibes. The beaches are wide, sandy, and mostly uncrowded, with some insane waves for surfing — whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone. Even if you don’t surf, just watching people ride the waves or hanging out on the sand is such a relaxing way to spend the day.
We loved wandering around the small town, grabbing fresh seafood from local spots, and taking in the laid-back atmosphere. There’s a real sense of calm here — no big resorts, just a mix of surf camps, small hotels, and local eateries that make the place feel authentic and welcoming. Sunsets are incredible too, with the sky lighting up in oranges and pinks over the ocean.
Accommodation and food are pretty affordable — rooms range from around 15–60 USD per night depending on your style, and local meals are usually 3–7 USD. Whether you’re looking for a surf adventure, a chill beach day, or just a quiet escape, Popoyo is the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, relax, and enjoy the Nicaraguan coast.
