Paracas was such a fun and unexpected stop for us. This small coastal town in Peru sits right on the edge of the desert and the ocean, and the contrast between the two is what makes it so special.
Things We Loved in Paracas:
Ballestas Islands Tour – Cruising past sea lions, penguins, and huge seabird colonies felt like a mini Galápagos experience. Seeing the Candelabra geoglyph carved into the cliff was wild.
Paracas National Reserve – Exploring the reserve by bike or tour was a highlight. Desert cliffs dropping into bright blue water, red sand beaches, and unreal viewpoints everywhere.
Sunset at Playa Roja – Watching the sunset over the red sand and ocean was honestly stunning and one of our favourite moments here.
Fresh Seafood – We ate so well in Paracas. Ceviche, grilled fish, and cold beers by the water after a long day exploring just hit differently.
Chilled Coastal Vibe – It’s a super relaxed town, perfect for slowing down between bigger adventures.
Tips for Visiting:
Best time: Year-round, but mornings are usually calmer for boat tours.
Getting around: Tours or bike rentals make it easy to explore the reserve.
Essentials: Windbreaker (it gets windy), sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.
Paracas is the perfect mix of wildlife, desert landscapes, and ocean views. It’s an easy stop that packs in way more than you expect and made our Peru trip even more memorable.
