We ended up at Port Vell Restaurante when we were in the mood for something a bit nicer but still relaxed, and it was such a good choice. The setting is beautiful, especially in the evening, with a cozy, romantic feel that still doesn’t feel stuffy or over the top.

The food was really solid, especially if you’re into seafood. Everything tasted fresh and well done, and it felt like a great spot to slow down, have a proper sit-down meal, and enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail. It’s the kind of place that works perfectly for a chilled date night or a special dinner while travelling.

Prices are a bit higher than casual beach spots, usually around 15–25 USD for mains, but it felt worth it for the quality and atmosphere. If you’re in Puerto Viejo and want a nice dinner spot that still feels laid-back, Port Vell is definitely worth checking out.
