If you’re visiting the Galápagos Islands, the Charles Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz is a must-see. This important conservation center is dedicated to protecting the islands’ unique wildlife, including giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and endangered species - a perfect spot to learn about the Galápagos’ ecology up close.
We loved seeing the giant tortoises being cared for, learning about breeding programs, and exploring the informative exhibits that explain the islands’ conservation challenges and successes. It’s educational, inspiring, and very family-friendly. There is also option to see the tortoises on El Chato Ranch on Santa Cruz as well or a similar place to visit the giant Tortoises on San Cristobal island if you run out of time.
Entry is very affordable, making it easy to support the work being done while enjoying an engaging experience. If you’re in the Galápagos and want to learn about conservation, wildlife, and the islands’ incredible biodiversity, the Charles Darwin Research Station is definitely worth a visit.
