What to expect:
đ˘ Every evening (around 5âŻPM) the turtle release takes place on Playa Bacocho on the northern side of Puerto Escondido.
You arrive late afternoon, pay a donation or through the guide (typically around 200âŻMXN per person, about ~USâŻ$10â$12) and listen to a brief talk in English and Spanish about turtle conservation.
Youâll have a chance to take photos with the hatchlings and then guide your turtle down the sand toward the sea as the sun sets â a really special moment and great for photos!
The money raised goes toward local conservation efforts to protect turtles and other coastal wildlife.
Tips for the visit:
Arrive by about 4:30â4:45âŻPM to register and secure your spot â itâs very popular and can get crowded.
The release often coincides beautifully with sunset, so plan to stay on the beach afterward for photos and the views.
What youâll see:
Tiny baby turtles (often Olive Ridley, Hawksbill or Green turtles) making their first dash for the ocean.
Volunteers sharing info about turtle life cycles and conservation challenges.
This activity is a mustâdo for wildlife lovers visiting Puerto Escondido â itâs simple, emotional, and a great way to support local conservation while enjoying a stunning beach sunset.
