If you’re in Boquete and love a good adventure, hiking Volcán Barú is a must. It’s the highest peak in Panama, and on a clear day, you can see both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans from the summit — it’s an absolutely unreal view that makes the effort so worth it.
The hike itself is challenging but totally doable if you’re prepared. Most people start very early in the morning (around 2–3 AM) so they can reach the summit by sunrise. The trail goes through cloud forests, farmland, and volcanic rock, so the scenery keeps changing and there’s always something new to look at. Guides are available if you want a bit of extra safety and local knowledge.
Depending on your pace, the hike usually takes 6–8 hours round trip for the main summit trail. Bring plenty of water, snacks, layers for the cold summit, and a headlamp if you’re going pre-dawn. If you’re looking for a truly epic adventure with insane views and the bragging rights of standing on Panama’s highest point, Volcán Barú is an unforgettable experience.
