If you’re staying in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chukumaltik makes an incredible day trip and is one of those places that completely surprises you in the best way. It’s a natural lagoon near Comitán de Domínguez, famous for its unreal turquoise-blue water that you can swim, kayak or paddleboard in. The setting feels peaceful and untouched, surrounded by nature, and it’s an easy escape from the city for a day. Prices vary depending on what you do there, but it’s generally affordable for a day visit, with extra costs if you rent kayaks or stay overnight. Our tip is to go early in the morning when it’s calm and quiet, and bring swimmers and a towel because the colour of the water in person is next level — easily one of the most memorable day trips from San Cristóbal.
