San Cristóbal Island is one of the main islands in the Galápagos, and it’s a must-visit if you want to combine stunning landscapes, wildlife encounters, and history. From the moment you arrive, the island feels alive — think golden beaches, turquoise waters, volcanic cliffs, and wildlife everywhere.

The island’s highlights include plush beaches perfect for swimming or snorkeling, trails that wind through cacti forests and coastal cliffs, and an almost certainty to spot sea lions, marine iguanas, and colorful birds almost anywhere you go. The town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is small but charming, with cafes, a visitor centre, and boat tours departing daily.

One of the best ways to experience San Cristóbal is by snorkeling with sea lions or taking a boat tour to nearby spots, but it’s also amazing just walking the beaches and coastal trails. Wildlife is incredibly approachable here — sea lions lounge on the sand, and iguanas bask nearby, making for unforgettable photos.

Practical tips:

  • The island is walkable, and many tours depart from town.

  • Popular excursions include Kicker Rock snorkeling trips and La Lobería beach visits.

  • Entrance fees to the Galápagos National Park apply (USD ~$200 for adults), and guided tours vary depending on activity.
