If you’re in Ecuador and love nature and adventure, the Ruta de las Cascadas is an experience you shouldn’t miss. This scenic route winds through lush cloud forests, offering stunning waterfalls, rivers, and incredible views at every turn - perfect for hiking, taking photos, or just enjoying the outdoors. The main waterfall on the route is honestly one of the most incredible we've ever seen.

We booked to get there via one of the tourist buses in town (super cheap!) but you could also hire motorbikes and ride there. We loved stopping at several waterfalls along the way, feeling the mist, and exploring the surrounding trails - although we will say they have a few 'gimicky' stops along the way as well when you book on the bus. The area is full of vibrant flora and fauna, making it a peaceful escape into nature while also giving a little thrill with some adventurous hikes and rope bridges.

Visiting is very affordable, with small entry fees for some waterfalls or trails, and it’s easy to spend a full day exploring the route. If you’re in Ecuador and want a breathtaking mix of nature, adventure, and incredible scenery, the Ruta de las Cascadas is definitely worth the trip.
