Fort Amsterdam is a compact, walkable Dutch-era fort in Willemstad that you mostly experience from the outside and the ramparts rather than as a big museum. Expect security presence and some areas to be closed because the fort houses government offices, so plan to enjoy the exterior views, historic cannons and the waterfront setting, then move on if access is restricted. Go in the morning or late afternoon for softer light and cooler temperatures, wear comfortable shoes because the streets around it are cobbled, and pair the stop with a stroll across the nearby floating bridge and the colorful Handelskade waterfront. There is usually no big admission fee for the public areas, but check ahead if you want a guided tour or to enter special rooms.
