We spent a day at Parque Nacional Cahuita and it ended up being one of our favourite national parks in Costa Rica. What makes it so special is that the trail runs right along the coastline, so you’re walking through jungle with the ocean beside you the whole time. It feels super relaxed and not hectic like some of the bigger parks.

Along the walk, we spotted monkeys, sloths, iguanas, and loads of birds, plus there are plenty of little beaches where you can stop for a swim to cool off. The path is mostly flat and easy, so it’s a great option even if you don’t feel like doing a big hike.

Entry works on a donation basis (around 5 USD per person) you can also go the back entrance for free, which is pretty rare for a national park. If you want a mix of wildlife, jungle, and beach all in one easy day, Cahuita National Park is an absolute must.
