Apoyo Lagoon is honestly one of the most peaceful and beautiful spots we visited in Nicaragua. It’s a massive volcanic crater filled with bright turquoise water, surrounded by lush hills — perfect for swimming, kayaking, or just relaxing by the shore.

We loved just floating in the water and soaking up the views. The water is super clear, and there are a few small restaurants and spots to rent kayaks or paddleboards, so you can spend the whole day there without getting bored. It’s quiet compared to beaches, so it feels really calm and untouched.

Entry is usually just a few dollars, and accommodation around the lagoon ranges from budget cabins to mid-range guesthouses, making it easy to stay a night or two if you want to really relax. If you’re after a chill, scenic spot to swim, kayak, and escape the crowds, Apoyo Lagoon is an absolute must-visit.
