Hiking Concepción or Maderas Volcano – Concepción is steep and challenging, while Maderas is more jungle-filled and shaded. Both give incredible views if you’re up for it.
El Pital Waterfalls – A gorgeous spot for a refreshing swim surrounded by jungle—perfect for a couple’s day trip.
Ojo de Agua – A natural spring-fed pool ideal for cooling off and relaxing after a morning of exploring.
Charco Verde Nature Reserve – Walk trails through the forest, see monkeys, iguanas, and birds, and enjoy a small, peaceful beach by the lake.
Laguna de Charco Verde – Small lake area perfect for kayaking or just chilling on the shore.
Chocolate & Coffee Tours – We did a hands-on chocolate-making tour where we learned how local cacao is grown and processed, and sampled fresh chocolate—it was a highlight for foodies.
Beaches – Playa Santo Domingo and Playa La Palma were our favourites for swimming and watching sunsets over the lake.
Cycling Around the Island – The best way to explore villages, local markets, and hidden waterfalls at your own pace.
Local Villages – San José del Sur and Balgüe are full of colourful streets and friendly locals—we loved stopping for fresh fruit or coffee.
