Kicker Rock (León Dormido) is one of the most iconic natural sights in the Galápagos Islands, and if you get the chance to visit, it’s absolutely worth it. Just off San Cristóbal Island, this dramatic rock formation rises straight out of the ocean, split down the middle into two towering cliffs that look unreal in person.
The main reason people come here is for snorkelling and diving, and it does not disappoint. The clear waters around Kicker Rock are home to hammerhead sharks, Galápagos sharks, sea turtles, rays, sea lions, and huge schools of fish. Even from the surface while snorkelling, you often spot sharks cruising below, which is equal parts thrilling and unforgettable.
Most visits are done as a half-day boat tour (around 3–4 hours), usually combined with stops at nearby beaches or snorkel sites. Tours typically cost around USD $90–$150, including gear and a guide. Conditions can be a bit choppy, but the marine life makes it more than worth it.
You don’t land on the rock itself, but cruising between the cliffs by boat and swimming in the channel is an experience in itself — and easily one of the best wildlife encounters in the Galápagos.
