Semuc Champey, tucked away in the lush mountains of Guatemala, completely blew us away. This natural wonder, with its turquoise limestone pools and surrounding jungle, was one of the highlights of our trip. It’s the perfect spot for adventure seekers and nature lovers, and we loved every minute of swimming, hiking, and exploring off-the-beaten-path landscapes together.
Top Things We Loved at Semuc Champey:
Natural Pools – We spent hours swimming in the bright blue, terraced pools formed by the Cahabón River—it honestly felt like paradise.
El Mirador – Hiking up to the viewpoint gave us breathtaking panoramic views of the pools and the surrounding rainforest. The view from the top was absolutely unforgettable.
Cave Exploration – On our tour, we explored nearby caves like Kan’Ba, wading through underground rivers with only a candle to light the way. It honestly felt like an Indiana Jones adventure! (We’ll link our guide below for anyone wanting to try it.)
Tubing the Cahabón River – Floating down the river together was such a fun and scenic way to relax after all the hiking and swimming.
Tips for Visiting:
Best time: December to April for drier weather.
Getting there: It’s pretty remote, so we highly recommend taking a guided tour from Lanquín—it’s by far the easiest way to experience everything.
Essentials: Swimsuit, water shoes, insect repellent, and some cash for local guides and entry fees.
Semuc Champey left us in complete awe—it’s one of those places you’ll never forget. If you’re visiting Guatemala, this is an absolute must-do.
