If you’re wandering around Oaxaca and suddenly smell chocolate, chances are you’re near Mayordomo. This is one of the city’s most famous spots for traditional Oaxacan chocolate, where cacao is stone-ground right in front of you and the smell alone pulls you inside. We loved grabbing a hot chocolate made with water or milk (you choose) and pairing it with a pan de yema, which is honestly the best way to experience it. Prices are very reasonable, usually around 40–80 MXN for a drink depending on what you order, and you can also buy chocolate to take home. It’s one of those places where you slow down, sip, and really soak up a classic Oaxaca tradition.
