We absolutely loved stopping at Gorditas Doña Gorda when we were wandering Mérida because it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re eating just like the locals. The gorditas are huge, freshly made, and packed with fillings from chicharrón and cochinita to cheese and beans. Prices are super affordable, usually around 30–50 MXN per gordita, which makes it easy to try a couple and share.

Our tip is to go at lunchtime when they’re freshly made and the line is lively, so you can watch everything being cooked right in front of you. Pair it with a cold Horchata or agua fresca and just enjoy the flavour and the atmosphere, try one of everything, they are cheap and you never know what your gonna like most.
