If you’re spending time in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Real de Guadalupe is the street you’ll end up on again and again without even trying. It’s the city’s most lively and colourful strip, lined with cafés, bakeries, restaurants, bars and little boutiques, and it has a relaxed, bohemian vibe that feels very San Cris. When we were there, they were having a massive parade and everyone was drinking and having fun even thought it was raining so much! We loved coming here for a slow coffee in the morning and then drifting back in the evening when the street comes alive with music and people watching. There’s no cost to wander, but expect café and food prices to be slightly higher than elsewhere in town. Our tip is to walk it end to end, pop into a few side streets, and grab a table outside somewhere around sunset — it’s the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere.
