We’d absolutely recommend El Califa de León if you’re in Mexico City and serious about tacos because it’s one of the only taquerías in the world to receive a Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Mexico — a huge deal for a street‑style taco spot. The menu is simple but legendary, with just a handful of tacos like gaonera (their signature), bistec, costilla and chuleta, all served on hand‑made corn tortillas and paired with red and green salsas. Prices are really fair at around 50–80 MXN per taco, so it’s a great way to experience a Michelin‑recognized bite without breaking the bank. Our tip is to try the gaonera taco — it’s the standout and often the reason people line up for a taste. The place is tiny with limited space, so embrace the stand‑up taco counter vibe and enjoy the real local experience.
