If you’re in Chichicastenango, you absolutely can’t miss the market — it’s actually the largest market in Central America! The place is huge, colorful, and packed with everything from fresh fruit and veggies to handmade textiles, carved masks, and traditional crafts. Walking through it feels like stepping straight into the heart of Guatemalan culture, with locals and tourists buzzing around, vendors calling out, and the smell of street food in the air.
We loved wandering through all the stalls, checking out the brightly woven fabrics, intricate wooden masks, and hand-painted pottery, and grabbing little snacks from the food vendors. Honestly, this market has the best souvenirs in all of Latin America — you’ll find one-of-a-kind treasures that you just won’t see anywhere else. It’s also a dream for photos, with the vivid colors and lively scenes everywhere you look.
Prices vary depending on what you buy — small souvenirs and snacks are just a few dollars, while bigger items like blankets or textiles usually go for 15–50 USD depending on size and quality. Plan to spend a couple of hours exploring, tasting local treats, and soaking up the energy — Chichicastenango Market is a truly unforgettable experience.
We took a day trip from Lake Atitlan but can also be done from Antigua, so we will link the tour we did below
