Playa del Carmen is a compact, walkable beach town, so plan to base yourself near Quinta Avenida for restaurants, shops and easy beach access, and expect to get around on foot, colectivo vans or short taxi rides. Fly into Cancun and take a shared shuttle or ADO bus for the straightforward 45–60 minute transfer, or catch the ferry from Playa if you want a day trip to Cozumel. Bring pesos and small bills for beach vendors and tips, use reef‑safe sunscreen for snorkeling on the nearby coral, and book popular cenote or archaeological tours in advance through reputable operators to avoid last‑minute price hikes. Be aware of peak season crowds in winter and the hurricane season in summer, keep an eye on your belongings in busy areas, and you’ll find a good mix of beaches, nightlife and easy access to Riviera Maya sights.
