Marions Lookout is a stunning spot that offers absolutely incredible views of Dove Lake and the surrounding mountain ranges. Reaching this lookout does require a bit of effort, but it’s well worth it. Personally, I recommend adding this stop to your route up to Cradle Mountain’s summit, as it provides breathtaking vistas that are hard to beat. However, if you’re not up for tackling the full Cradle Mountain hike, Marions Lookout is a fantastic alternative with equally stunning views.

There are a few different tracks you can take to get to this lookout. The most popular route is via the Wombat Pool Loop, which is a 5-kilometer loop starting from the Dove Creek bus stop. It’s a great option if you want a shorter hike that still delivers incredible scenery. I chose to go via Ronny Creek, which is a 6.9-kilometer return track. Although I didn’t turn back, opting instead to continue on to Cradle Mountain’s summit, it’s a beautiful route that offers its own rewards. On the route via Ronny Creek, you’ll pass by Crater Lake, which is a stunning highlight of the hike. Nestled between mountain ranges, this lake has its own boat shed and is a cool spot to stop and relax. I even saw a family taking a dip in the lake, which looked refreshing. 

Both the Wombat Pool Loop and the Ronny Creek routes involve some steep sections with chains for support, rocky paths, and the possibility of spotting wildlife. These features add to the adventure and make the journey all the more memorable. So, whether you’re aiming for Marions Lookout as a standalone adventure or as part of a larger trek to Cradle Mountain, it’s definitely worth including in your itinerary for its spectacular views and scenic beauty.
