Lake Matheson is a stunning spot tucked away in lush rainforest on the West Coast. What really makes it stand out is how its glassy surface perfectly mirrors the Southern Alps, including Aoraki/Mt Cook on a clear day,  it’s honestly one of the most magical views you’ll find in New Zealand. 

The 4.3km loop around the lake is an easy, peaceful walk that takes just over an hour. Along the way, you’ll get a few great viewpoints to snap those epic reflections and soak up the calm vibes. It’s a perfect spot to just chill, enjoy the quiet, and take heaps of photos. Definitely pack your camera and maybe even some snacks for a little lakeside chill session.
