Matapouri Beach has amazing crystal-clear waters and sand with that perfect golden glow that just screams beach paradise. If you’re looking for somewhere to really kick back, relax, and soak up some sunshine, this is it. I spent a whole day here, just lounging in the sun and taking refreshing dips in the ocean. The waves are super gentle, so you don’t need to be an expert swimmer to enjoy a mellow splash around.

For those who love a little exploring, there’s also the famous Mermaid Pools nearby (although heads up, they’re currently closed to help restore the area). But trust me, even without them, Matapouri is absolute bliss! And if you’re in a self-contained campervan, you can freedom camp right in the carpark, how good is that?
