This carpark is the gateway into Mount Aspiring National Park, where you’ll find trails leading to heaps of beautiful huts. I’ve marked it on my map because it’s also a free campsite, and you’re allowed to stay overnight in a self-contained campervan. It’s super convenient if you’re doing a longer hike and want to save some daylight by sleeping closer to the trailhead.

There aren’t any facilities here apart from public toilets, but you’ll have easy access to walks and wake up to unreal mountain views. Just a heads up, though the road out here is gravel and has a few creek crossings. If there’s been heavy rain, I wouldn’t risk it unless you’re confident your vehicle can handle it. But in normal conditions, 2WD can make it no worries.
